A relatively recent creative project of mine is writing books and other materials. One such series called "Seriously Real Guides" and the first of 10 is already published on Amazon (see link below) there are more in the pipeline.
Think retirement is all sunny mornings and endless leisure? Think again. In this refreshingly real and often humorous guide, retirement comes alive through five amusing and interconnecting short stories that follow a cast of characters as they go about daily life: breakfast banter, coffee with a friend, a midday pint at the pub, a weekend when grown-up children and grandchildren arrive, and finally a group barbecue where everyone gathers.
Through these stories we glimpse the real challenges retirees face around purpose, health, and finances told with warmth, wit, and a light-hearted touch that makes even the tricky moments relatable. And then there’s Doris, the glamorous widow, artist, and dating-site adventurer who reminds us that retirement can be a new beginning, full of colour, courage, and possibility.
But this isn’t just storytelling. Each scene ends with exercises, quizzes, summaries, and discussion points designed to spark meaningful reflection and conversation. Sometimes playful, sometimes thought-provoking, these activities highlight how men and women often see things differently and offer advice on how to bridge those gaps with humour, understanding, and practical solutions. Whether it’s between partners, within families, or simply with yourself, these tools help turn insight into action.
This isn’t a list of quick fixes. It’s a surprisingly real, engaging, and uplifting way to explore retirement. One that leaves you better prepared, more connected, and more confident about embracing the next chapter with humour, insight, respect and love.
